About KIT
External Evaluation
KIT actively adopts external evaluation criteria to continually improve the education, research and student services that are required by society.
1) Japan University Accreditation Association (JUAA) (evaluation and accreditation agency authorized by the Minister of MEXT)
KIT was evaluated and accredited for its quality by the Japan University Accreditation Association for FY2015.
Accreditation period: April 1, 2016 ~ March 31, 2023
2) Japan Institution for Higher Education Evaluation (JIHEE) (certified evaluation and accreditation agency authorized by the Minister of MEXT)
KIT was evaluated and accredited for its quality by the Japan Institution for Higher Education Evaluation (first and second periods).
Accreditation period: April 1, 2012 ~ March 31, 2019
3) Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE)
Individuals who have completed the following program accredited by JABEE are certified as having acquired skills equivalent to those of engineers (associate professional engineers) who have passed the first-stage professional engineer examination in each technical field. The certified education programs are as follows.
College of Engineering
Department of Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Engineering and related fields), Department of Robotics (Mechanical Engineering and related fields), Department of Aeronautic (Mechanical Engineering and related fields), Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Information and Communication and related fields), Department of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineering (Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Information and Communication and related fields)
College of Environmental Engineering and Architecture
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Civil Engineering and related fields)
College of Bioscience and Chemistry
Department of Applied Chemistry (Chemistry and related fields (Applied Chemistry Course)
4) Japan Quality Award (FY2003), Global Business Excellence Award; Grand Prize (FY2006), Excellence Prize for AA-level Evaluation (FY2011) and Most Valuable Prize for A-level Evaluation (FY2014)
The Japan Quality Award was established by Japan Productivity Center in December 1995. It has been presented to companies that have "Excellent Management Systems" because they operate with the customer's perspective in mind and continue to create new values through self-innovation.
KIT applied for the "Japan Quality Award" in 2003 and obtained a "B-level" evaluation. In 2006, we also applied for the "Global Business Excellence Award," which is an evaluation system with the same framework as "Japan Quality Award", and obtained the Grand Prize, which is equivalent to A-level or higher, and AA-level in 2011, and Most Valuable Prize (A-level) for activities of Educational Support Center in 2014. Please see our website for details.

5) CDIO INITIATIVE
"CDIO" stands for Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate, and CDIO INITIATIVE is an innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of engineers. The framework provides students with an education for developing products using knowledge through the process of Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate, in addition to conventional knowledge education.
In June 2011, KIT joined CDIO INITIATIVE, which is becoming a global standard in engineering education involving the participation of 25 countries. In FY2014, we held a conference of Asian countries at KIT, with 234 participants from nine countries, including personnel from KIT.
