Background to the Establishment of the Institute for
Contents & Technology Integration:

The entertainment industry is currently undergoing a once-in-a-century turning point, primarily due to the rapid expansion of the Internet since the beginning of the 21st century.
Unlike previous media technologies, the Internet is causing a fundamental shift in the entertainment industry.
While media technologies such as cable TV, satellite broadcasting, CDs, and DVDs emerged in the 20th century and drastically transformed the entertainment industry, they co-existed and prospered with the existing market order.
However, the Internet is fundamentally changing the conventional wisdom on which the industry has been built, causing power struggles among companies dominating the industry.
Major Hollywood studios and the four major US television networks, which have led the global video industry, are now being forced to make fundamental changes as they compete with emerging powers such as Netflix and GAFA (Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon).
The impact of the Internet on entertainment extends to consumers, who can now access all kinds of content 24 hours a day from any location, transcending the constraints of time and space.
As a result, the boundaries between entertainment and daily life are gradually blurring in the same way that remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic has eliminated the boundary between home and work.
A new environment is being created in which consumers can freely move between their daily lives and entertainment.
Technology is connecting the two, and the boundary between daily life and entertainment is disappearing.
Our institute was established to focus on the convergence of IT technology and the content industry, developing a wide range of proposals and inspirations for this new environment, and conducting a variety of research.
