THE SDGs Action Cardgame “X(cross)”

Overview

THE SDGs Action Cardgame “X(cross)” is a card game composed of two kinds of cards, trade-off cards and resource cards. There is one issue concerning each of seventeen goals of SDGs on the trade-off cards respectively, and on each resource card there is one usable resource to solve the issues such as a technology like AI or a robot, a product and a service.

Regarding joint projects, to give weight on viewpoints of students who have a crucial role in the SDGs era, SDGs Global Youth Innovators, which is the project group consisting of the students who have taken the education curriculum specializing in original SDGs of Kanazawa Institute of Technology (KIT), is in charge of planning, production and operation. Also, from the professional point of view, SDGs Promotion Center, Institute for Regional Revitalization and Innovation, KIT and from the viewpoint of designing, Rebirth Project Co., Ltd. have participated in planning and production.

300 people from seventeen countries have experienced the pilot test using β-version of X and evaluated it highly, saying, “We ‘ve got the specific image of the SDGs action.”, “It is great because there was no end to laughter though we were discussing how to solve challenging social issues.” and “it is innovative to be able to think of our original card games.” More than that, the card game has been officially adopted to industry-government-academia trainings of local governments which have already been selected as SDGs Future Cities, being utilized for smooth cooperation. In addition, versions for elementary school students, junior high school students and certain companies have been decided to be created in the future.

trade-off: the situation where if you gain something, you lose something else. In the case of SDGs, tradeoff means the situation where another social problem is produced by solving one certain social issue. That is the situation to be solved in order to realize the concept of SDGs, “No one will be left behind.”)

The English version is the one directly translated from the Japanese card game. While people from various countries have been playing the card game, we have learned from feedback that the written expression and the pictures on the cards should be changed according to countries. In response to it, further improvement should be necessary. We appreciate your understanding about that when you play the game.
